This
new BPC built home scored a 55 rating on
the new HERS index, which means it should
require half the energy a similar size home
built to 2006 IECC code requirements. The
new home was built using precast insulated
(R5) foundation walls and structural insulated
panels (SIP) in lieu of traditional framing.
Wall panels use 3.5" polyurethane closed
cell foam insulation (R24.5).
The
home incorporates a 2.9kW photovoltaic solar
electric system that is expected to
provide the home with $435 in average annual
electric savings.
The
home has exposed red oak beams, a large central
masonry chimney that acts as a thermal mass,
and country kitchen.
The
homes heating system uses the smallest available
high efficiency oil-fired boiler to charge
a storage tank that supports both domestic
hot water and space heating needs. A variable
speed air handler along with an energy recovery
ventilator and advanced control system allows
precise control of space conditions to maximize
energy efficiency.
