This 1920's home was built with 21" thick exterior walls, 17" of which is solid granite. Yes it's a very solid home, but with 17" of granite havng an R value equal to approximately 1, an over sized hot water boiler, plus electric heat for the sun room and media room it was always uncomfortable and very expensive to heat. BPC designed and managed the installation of energy efficient upgrades including spray foam insulation and air sealing, boiler controls to improve boiler performance and delivered comfort, plus a high-pressure forced air heating and cooling system for the entire home, hidden from sight. SEER 12 outdoor condensers were properly sized and installed to meet the needs of the home. The owners now enjoy an air conditioned space during summer months and a warm and comfortable space during winter months with reduced energy costs for heating due to improved air tightness to the home and improved boiler performance.

This is a typical ceiling diffuser for a high-pressure forced-air system, consisting of a 2" diameter air outlet, typically place at the perimeter of the room away from the daily flow of traffic. This type of heating and cooling is actually a more efficient system than the standard low-pressure system as it is more effective at mixing with the room air since it's throwing the air into the room faster and with more turbulence.

Here there used to be an old cast iron hot water raditator that was removed and replaced with several wooden grill style floor diffusers (other styles available). The flooring was patched where the radiator stood and refinished to match the remainder of the floor to appear as if the radiators never existed. The heating or cooling demand of the space determines the quantity of 2" diameter diffusers needed.

Here is another floor diffuser, again showing where an old cast iron radiator once stood, now patch.
