The
front of the home has a large wrap around porch,
extending the full width of the home and to the
right next to the garage.
The
detached garage is historically correct for a Victorian
house, but still convenient to the house, and allows
visitors to appreciate more the graceful lines of
the house. From an air quality perspective, a detached
garage eliminates the potential for auto exhaust
to be sucked into the home.
The
bright kitchen features maple flooring, birch
cabinetry, quartz counters, maple butcherblock
island top, marble backsplash, stainless sinks,
recessed refrigerator alcove, butler's pantry,
kitchen desk area, and tremendous total storage
space.
The
building lot has a modest pitch from west
to east, which permits a walk-out basement
with windows. The back patio area is terraced
to create a wonderful, bright space for outdoor
family activities.
The
back of the house faces directly south with
generous window areas, which will help to
warm the house in the winter when the sun
is low on the horizon. It also ensures that
the house is especially bright during the
winter when natural daylight is so welcome.
The
top floor of the house is an oversized library
with four dormers facing to each point of
the compass, which imparts a unique quality
to the natural light that floods the space.
With 12" of spray foam insulation in
the rafters, this space stays comfortable
under all weather conditions.
The
main floor of the house features four distinct
main rooms that are connected by this gracious
central hall, where the powder room and central
staircase are located.
The
materials used on the exterior were selected
for durability and low maintenance. They include
fiber cement siding over a drainage plane;
fiberglass windows and columns; and composite
deck, rail, and trim.
